In 1967 the then Minister for Education, Donogh O’Malley, knew that the teaching of Irish in schools was not working. He approached RTE and Gael-Linn. These two organisations came together and devised Buntús Cainte.
These was a TV series, books, vinyl records and cassette tapes to help the population understand and speak Irish to a higher standard. We have a book and cassette tapes of the series.
It is debatable if Buntús Cainte achieved the goal as set out by Minister O’Malley.
