Luathscríbhinn Gregg by Kathleen Cruise O’Brien

This the Gregg shorthand course in Irish. Kathleen Cruise O’Brien adapted the standard English shorthand course specifically for use by Irish speakers.  This is a rare example of how common everyday activities were transformed into use by Irish speakers.

There is a Foreword in both Irish and English by John F Burke. Mr Burke gives a detailed introduction to how the shorthand course would impact the lives of Irish speakers, for the better.

Mrs Cruise O’Brien (mother of the famous Connor) was an instructor at the Rathmines Technical Institute.  He knowledge of English and Irish phonetics must have been immense to complete that mammoth task of adapting the Greggs shorthand course for use by Irish speakers.
