This is the story of a remarkable woman, Méiní Dunlevy. Born in Boston of Irish parents, she was reared in Dunquin. At nineteen she eloped and went to live on The Blaskets, where she worked as a nurse and midwife for thirty six years.
Méiní’s story tells of the hardships endured by the inhabitants of the islands during the bleak years at the early part of the 20th Century.
