On 1st July 1681, having been found guilty of high treason for promoting the Catholic faith, Oliver Plunkett was hanged, drawn and quartered in London.
In 1975, he was canonised by Pope Paul IV. To mark that event, Cardinal Tomás Ó Fiaich published a biography of St. Oliver.
On 9th July a statute, of St Oliver, is being unveiled to mark the 350th Anniversary of his appointment as archbishop of Armagh. The statue is on the ground’s of St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh.
