Patrick MacGill was an an Irish journalist, poet and novelist, known as “The Navvy Poet”. He was born in Donegal. MacGill published Children of a the Dead End in 1914. This book starts with his childhood at the end of the 19th century. It details the hard life of the country folk in Donegal at that time.
The Rat Pit was a continuation of the previous book and deals with his life as a potato picker in Scotland.
Moleskin Joe published in 1923 was the final part of the trilogy of autobiographies.
