Peig is one of the most talked about books in Irish literature. The Irish language version of her life has divided opinion since it was published. The consensus among people of a certain age, is that they did not like her story or the way it was taught in secondary school.
Bryan MacMahon had the onerous task of translating Peig’s autobiography from Irish to English. The English translation opened the book up to a new audience. Those students that did not like or understand the original language version also welcomed the translation.
Our book is the first American edition that was published in 1974 by Syracuse University Press. The book is in excellent condition and has an evocative dustjacket.
