The Economic War on Knocknagoshel by Thomas Ryan

The correct title for this pamphlet is The Economic War on Knocknagoshel or How the E.E.C. argued the toss with Kocknagoshel and came of second best. This pamphlet was in the 1970’s by the Natural Rights Association.

The text is a satirical or political commentary focusing on the relationship and tension between local Irish interests—symbolised by the small village of Knocknagoshel in County Kerry—and the sweeping regulations of the European Economic Community

This pamphlet is a rare surviving example of the commentary around Ireland’s accession to the E.E.C. (the precursor to the European Union).

We are offering this pamphlet together with another – Knocknagoshel Parish written by Kieran O’Shea in 1991.

“Arise, Knocknagoshel and take your place among the nations of the Earth”.
