The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists by Robert Tressell

November 28, 2019 By P Commane

The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists tells the story of a group of working men who are joined one day by Frank Owen, a journeyman-prophet with a vision of a just society.

The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists is both a masterpiece of wit and political passion and one of the most authentic novels of English working class life ever written.

Robert Tressell is the pen name of Dublin born Robert Noonan.

The novel was first published in 1914. It is set in Edwardian England.

The working conditions enjoyed by working folk left a lot to be desired. This book has been enjoyed by members of the Trade Union movement for many years.
