Captain Ronne led a 1947 expedition to Antarctica. This is his first person account of the hardships and quiet satisfactions of that undertaking.
Ronne properly belittles the glamorous image of explorers dashing off to make dramatic discoveries. His detailing of the logistics and inconveniences is unfortunately as dull in the reading as the experience must have been to the men.

There is no shortage of livelier, more enlightening reports on Antarctic expeditions.
